Sometimes I wear bathing suits and fur coats. WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT. (Photo by Lucy Hewett)
If you live in Chicago and want to see more of of this series, keep your eyes peeled for details on the show’s opening at Butterfat Gallery.
Sometimes I don’t even know how it’s possible to have all of the amazing feels I do about this wonderful babe.

i wish it was hot enough to get away with this
and that i was brave enough to wear it in summer.
i hope i am by the time summer rolls around. i know i look hot.
i’m just sort of worried for my safety
like super hyper visible fatness is terrifying, as the fatty in question.
I bolded that last part because omg, I feel that so much.
I only gained enough confidence to wear my crop top/shorts combo at the end of the summer last year, so really it was not very much. But when I wore it I felt on the one hand, extremely hot and beautiful and majestic. And on the other hand, really fucking nervous.
I wish I could wear my tiny outfits without fearing the attention my fatness brings.
Ditto.
I bought two awesome crop tops last September in preparation for summer. SS11/12 was going to be my season of the Fatty Crop Top. Well, summer has been and gone and I haven’t worn either of them.
Maybe next year.
I think I went out maybe one or two days last summer in a crop top, and seriously everything you’ve said above is totally accurate. I feel awesome when I rock my crop tops, but it’s really fucking uncomfortable being outside and having people give you looks or make snide comments. Why does wearing what we want have to be such a big fucking deal?

written by a fat person.
- You are beautiful. Not always and not to everyone, but we are all beautiful and deserving of love.
- You do not have justify your body to anyone. Not to your family, your friends, your doctor, your partners. It is your body. No one else’s.
- You are allowed to take up space. Use the world around you to your advantage. Be present in the world in as much space as you need to feel comfortable and safe.
- You are more than your body. You have emotional, spiritual, and mental worth. People might see your body first, but everything else about you matters just as much.
- You are allowed to change your body if you want to. You can gain or lose weight if it is your choice to do so. No one should shame you for either choice. You are also allowed to keep your body exactly the way it is right now, in this moment.
- You are allowed to be angry over fatphobia. You do not have to sit quietly and let those around you make you feel bad for your size. You can be angry, resentful, hurt, sad. You can speak out against fatphobia. You can reject diet and weight loss talk if you do not want to hear it.
- You can use the word fat. If you feel fat, you can use the word fat. You can reclaim it as a positive. You can use fat as a descriptor. No one can tell you that you are too small to use it. If it is part of who you are, do what’s best for you.
- You can love other fat people. You can make fat and fat ally communities. You can surround yourself with positive forces. You can make fat love. You can fat love yourself.
- You can wear what you want. Crop tops and short shorts. Mumus. Tutus and ties. It is up to you. Don’t let societal pressures like ‘flattering’ dictate your outfits.
- You can be fat. That is good. That is ok. That is a celebration.
And this goes for ANY body type. It is okay to be fat, skinny, average, in between. Whatever you are, it is okay.
Fuck chub rub.
Fuck wearing shorts under dresses.
Fuck worrying about whether someone can see that I’m wearing shorts under my dress.
Fuck bike shorts that are too short or too big.
Fuck trying to think about how to discreetly adjust ill fitting bike shorts while walking down the street.
Fuck failed DIY concoctions slathered between my legs.
Fuck buying expensive products just to see if they’ll work.
Fuck stained dresses with anti-chub rub goo applied too liberally.
Fuck not talking about chub rub because it’s shameful or impolite or inappropriate.
Fuck femininity that puts women’s bodies on display while erasing the actual experiences of those bodies.
SO RELEVANT TO MY LIFE. I’m looking forward to the cooler months because tights require so much less effort.
ugh THIS.
i’m sure my friends get tired of me talking about my fat girl problems all the time, but CHUB RUB IS THE FUCKING DEVIL.

The first column is where I googled “Fat people should/don’t/are” and the second is where I googled “Thin people should/don’t/are” to see what google would suggest.
If you are so deluded as to think that thin people aren’t treated better by society, here is my official invitation to go fuck yourself. <3 <3 <3 <3
